Maintain template variables

Use variables for reusable values in template content.

Use variables for reusable values in template content. Keep their keys and values consistent, then inspect the generated proposal for unresolved placeholders.

Create a custom variable

  1. Open Templates, then Variables and New Variable.
  2. Enter the display name and variable key.
  3. Choose its Type and Category.
  4. Add a Default Value and Description if useful.
  5. Select Create.

Available types are Text, Number, Date, Currency, Yes/No and List. Categories group Company, Client, Proposal, Project and Custom values.

Use the key

Use the displayed placeholder syntax, such as {{company_phone}}, with the exact key you created. The document-upload placeholder guide also lists standard placeholders for proposal, client, RFP and section content. Follow the guide associated with the template you are uploading rather than assuming that differently named placeholders are interchangeable.

Update and troubleshoot

Edit a custom variable's display name, Default Value or Description, then select Update. System variables carry a System marker and cannot be edited or deleted. Before deleting a custom variable, check templates that refer to its key. If a placeholder remains in a draft, check the key and available value, then correct the proposal before export.
