Purpose
The Safety and Active Travel Updates for Fort Street (Fort Street project) are part of the City of Victoria’s 33km All Ages and Abilities (AAA) priority cycling network. This phase, requesting ATF funding seeks to construct 882m of two-way protected bike lanes, 3688m of one-way protected bike lanes, crosswalk upgrades at all existing crosswalks, 7 new activated signaled crossings, new traffic signals, and new signage and road markings. Accessibility enhancements include 20 new wheelchair let-downs, 30 tactile dome mats for vision loss, and 14 audible signals (may not be eligible). Transit shelter upgrades, EV charging stations, bike parking, road paving, landscaping and street trees, and new public plaza are also included in the comprehensive improvements.
