Purpose
The purpose of this project is to implement key components identified in Little Black Bear’s Band recently completed community safety plan created through the Aboriginal Community Safety Planning Initiative. Specifically, the project will revitalize wellness circles within the community and the establishments of a Sports, Recreation and Culture club committee which will contribute towards crime prevention, youth engagement and community safety initiatives. Additionally, the project also intends to support capacity building initiatives through means of the Community Garden/Food Forrest initiative and youth engagement through the Iron Nations Rangers Program. The Iron Nations Rangers Program will promote crime reduction through positive youth engagement, with a curriculum that incorporates traditional skills training for youth members. The community can incorporate cultural norms, local languages, regional skills, and social needs into the program that will effectively offer meaningful activities for young people as a way of fostering community responsibility as well as positive alternative to harmful or illegal activities.
