Purpose
The contribution supports the active engagement and participation of the Cree Nation Government and coastal Cree communities of Eeyou Istchee in determining the feasibility of establishing a national marine conservation area (NMCA) in eastern James Bay. It enables the Cree Nation Government to hire personnel (such as project coordinator, community liaison), to support travel to and undertake necessary community consultations in partnership with Parks Canada, to participate in project steering committee meetings with Parks Canada, and to subcontract the assembly, mapping and review of traditional Cree knowledge. As an important part of Cree culture and knowledge, Cree language will be used, besides English and French, in some of the communication materials and in consultations.
