Purpose
This project aims to implement permanent infrastructure improvements along the 14 Avenue S and 15 Avenue S corridors to improve the safety, mobility and efficiency of all travel modes along these two corridors. Each corridor spanning 2.15km through the Beltline communities of West Connaught, Connaught Centre and Victoria Park, which are located immediately south of Calgary's busy central business district. The project scope includes upgrading the existing temporary on-street painted bike lanes to protected cycle tracks along the 15 Avenue S corridor and establishing a permanent one-way configuration for all modes of travel. In addition, pedestrian improvements are planned for both 14 Avenue S and 15 Avenue S, which together, will include 4.3km of complete streets roadway upgrades. Active mode improvements to these corridors provide a unique opportunity to integrate accessible, inclusive, and protected network connections for active transportation users, and additionally, provide enhanced operational benefits for all area road network users. This project will also facilitate better access and connectivity to businesses in the area and along the newly upgraded commercial district along the adjacent 17 Avenue S corridor.
