Purpose

"McIntyre Drive Traffic Calming Project will transform the neighbourhood corridor into a safe, multi-modal transportation showpiece, complementing the evolution of the adjacent Kwanlin Dün First Nation (KDFN) land uses. The road corridor is owned and operated by the City of Whitehorse, and is located fully within KDFN settlement land. The key components of the draft design include enlarged curb extensions at select intersections to narrow the driving right of way and reduce pedestrian crossing distances, curb extensions to provide transit stop facilities and improve transit accessibility, new zebra pavement markings at key crossing locations, 1.2 km of new protected cycle lanes (1.2 km on each side of the roadway) with marked cross-rides at intersections and accesses, installation of 50 concrete wheelchair and bike ramps, and 1.2 km of new sidewalk with barrier curb to increase pedestrian connectivity and safety. A lighting evaluation and design will improve illumination within the corridor."
