Purpose

This 36-month project will develop and implement non-discriminatory practices to assist families and communities of missing Indigenous women in navigating the law enforcement system and communicating with the media. This project will be undertaken in collaboration with justice related organizations, police, and the media in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and Newfoundland and Labrador. Healing circles will be developed to empower families and communities to identify their needs on how they can be supported to report cases of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. Building on the findings of the healing circles, supports and responsive tools would be created, such as a helpline for families, checklists/protocols for police, and education tools for lawyers and journalists. Project results will be evaluated and shared with other communities through video stories and presentations to stakeholder organizations.
