Purpose

The Roads Development Impacts (RDI) initiative launched by GNWT provides targeted funding to advance understanding of the cumulative effects of all-season and winter road development on caribou, water, and fish in northern environments. The initiative aims to inform environmental assessments and regulatory decision-making by producing practical, evidence-based guidance that integrates scientific research and Traditional Knowledge. This will be achieved through funding projects that will contribute to a collaborative synthesis report and engage in coordinated activities, including workshops and joint reporting, to support decision-maker needs.
