Purpose
June 2018 – On August 25, 2017, violence broke out in Rakhine State, Myanmar, resulting in a massive influx of refugees into neighbouring Bangladesh. As of June 14, 2018, more than 721,000 women, men, boys and girls have crossed into the region of Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. With GAC’s support, Save the Children Canada (SCC) and World Vision Canada (WVC) are jointly helping to respond to the immediate needs of refugees in Cox’s Bazar, including the specific needs of women and children. Activities include: (1) upgrading and equipping temporary learning centres; (2) training teachers on early childhood care and development and informal education; and (3) providing access to sufficient and quality water, sanitation and hygiene facilities.
