Purpose
This project creates structural assets that will reduce the impact of wave action on Tuktoyaktuk's vulnerable permafrost coasts. It consists of armored stone revetment as a shoreline protection for the village and the island, and of beach nourishment of an important barrier beach. This project will have an immediate effect in slowing shoreline retreat on the west coast of the community and on Tuktoyaktuk Island. Additionally, this will buy time for the community to gather the information required to create a well-informed plan for future adaptation actions to climate change.
