Purpose
This project aims to expand the existing building and extend the slaughter line to add a capacity of 20,000 hogs per week for emergency and humane slaughter of pigs in the event of an outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in either Quebec or Ontario, with the slaughterhouse located less than 50 kilometers from the Quebec-Ontario border. This will enable the Canadian pork industry to be prepared in the event of an ASF outbreak.
