Purpose
The objective of the project is Governments & industry partners collaborating to prevent establishment of invasive species impacting agriculture (ex. Asian Giant Hornets, Japanese Beetle). Responding to significant public concern & potential detrimental impacts, our monitoring & outreach program will build capacity of the public & agricultural producers to identify & report, empowering them to be part of the response & facilitating the collection of critical data regarding the extent and characteristics of their presence. The intern will learn how to use field surveillance (search for, report & check traps for invasive species), provide community outreach to raise awareness about identification, reporting & actions to mitigate spread, record & organize data (anecdotal evidence, citizen reports, etc.), prepare public & internal communications (social media, reports, etc.). Learn to use work tools to support coordination of activities & to demonstrate reporting practices and participate in Council activities (team meetings, planning activities etc.)
