Purpose

The Canada–Vietnam Academic Mobility Project: Toward Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Governance in the Indo-Pacific aims to strengthen university cooperation between the two countries by supporting research and training in the areas of inclusive and sustainable economic governance in the Indo-Pacific. Led by the NEME Chair, the initiative will award ten research grants (five for graduate students and five for professors/researchers) for 3–4-month stays in Vietnam, in partnership with two institutions: the Foreign Trade University in Hanoi and the University of Law in Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnam is a key actor in the Indo-Pacific and a party to several free trade agreements. It shares strategic priorities with Canada, such as economic diversification and sustainable governance. This strategic project aligns with Canada’s priorities related to open and rules-based trade, inclusive and sustainable governance, and the strengthening of regional resilience and local capacities, while fostering the development of lasting academic and diplomatic networks.
