Purpose

Université de Montréal experts on nature-based climate solutions will conduct a training and community engagement workshop in a makerspace in Inuvik, Northwest Territories in September 2024. Building on established relationships with several Indigenous governments and organizations, the workshop will integrate western science and Indigenous knowledge with open-source technologies, driven by the collective desire to build local capacity in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region and the Gwich’in Settlement Area in the context of understanding land and traditional territories as nature-based climate solutions. Indigenous knowledge, practices, and land stewardship will need to play an important part in the transition towards a sustainable climate future involving nature-based climate solutions to help Canada achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
