Purpose
This contribution supports the implementation of ecological restoration projects on 32 different properties to recover more than 156 metres of stream, 16.59 hectares of aquatic, riparian and terrestrial habitat, and infill plant across 36.23 ha of previously restored habitat in Rouge National Urban Park, improving ecological integrity in three major watershed ecosystems in the Greater Toronto Area and supporting ecosystem health in the park and its neighboring communities. This contribution will also include the treatment of 12 ash trees at risk from Emerald Ash Borer in the Glen Rouge Campground, and help to achieve the Federal Government’s commitment to planting two billion trees over the next 10 years by planting 47,570 native tree & shrubs in Rouge National Urban Park as part of a nature based solution to reduce carbon emissions and counteract climate change.
