Purpose

The Village of Carmacks and LSCFN has been experiencing serious and disruptive flooding of the downtown core, several homes, cabins and fish camps, as well as essential services over the past several years. The Community Flooding in Carmacks and Little Salmon Carmacks First Nation project would create permanent flood mitigation structures in the community by raising a crucial roadway along River Drive, and building structural dikes along the Yukon River. This project aims to prevent flooding of properties including the recreation complex and municipal services building, the health centre, fire hall and police station, as well as several homes and businesses. It would also see improvements to the communities wastewater treatment system, which has been infiltrated and overburdened in previous flooding events, leading to direct sewage discharge into the Yukon River, backups and boil water advisories.
