Purpose

The project aims to advance international police cooperation and promote a coordinated regional approach that more effectively addresses persistent and emerging terrorism-financing challenges in West Africa. By disrupting illicit financial networks linked to terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda and Islamic State (IS) affiliates in West Africa and Sahel regions, the project supports regional and international efforts, notably through the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), a G7 initiated global framework to combat financial crimes. By targeting illicit financial flows and strengthening regional border-security efforts, the initiative will reinforce intelligence gathering, criminal investigations, and operational activities in key threat and transit countries. Project activities include: 1) conduct analysis work on countering the financing of terrorism through joint baseline assessments; 2) organize training activities and tabletop exercises; and 3) conduct pre, post and active operational deployments.
