Purpose
Ottawa Police Service will expand Ottawa MERIT, a multi-agency collaborative prevention initiative, which focuses on community development and education, prevention, and risk mitigation through early intervention and reintegration efforts, as well as enforcement. This expansion will broaden the scope of prevention work in Ottawa to include countering radicalization to violence, as well as bring MERIT to more of the city. Funding will be used to assess local needs, train frontline officers and practitioners, and build awareness by engaging with the community through public relations campaigns.
