Purpose

The objective of this collaboration is the robust calibration of the PTIS (Photothermal Interferometry and Scattering) instrument, such that this instrument can act as a reference standard in calibrating other instruments. Ultimately the partnership will develop calibration standards, in the form of well[1]characterized particles of a known composition, that can act to anchor measurements in the real-world and provide the uncertainties necessary for constraining climate effects of atmospheric aerosols. In summary, this partnership aims to develop synthetic nanoparticles for light[1]absorption calibration using an aerosol of metal particles.
