Purpose
Through this 22-month project, YWCA Halifax will conduct community-based research that will investigate sexual and gender-base violence (SGBV) in the skilled trades in Nova Scotia. It will identify the prevalence and experiences of 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, address barriers to the accessibility and adequacy of workplace responses and supports, and provide recommendations to industry to prevent SGBV in the workplace and support survivors. To do so, the project will entail a targeted research phase which will include a literature review, relationship building work with key partners, engagement with 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals with lived experience and senior leaders in the skilled trade industry, and an analysis of results to identify best practices and develop recommendations for change and action. YWCA Halifax will create reports and multi-media pieces that summarize project findings and recommendations for key partners and stakeholders, and host a final meeting event to share project results, create workshop opportunities and develop action planning strategies for knowledge dissemination.
