Purpose
February 2024 – Cuba is currently experiencing a malnutrition crisis. Due to the economic situation after the Covid-19 pandemic, the population's limited access to basic and nutritious food has worsened. In addition to importing around 70 percent of the food it needs annually, Cuba is one of the Caribbean countries most exposed to the impact of extreme hydro-meteorological events. These events have already impacted the food security and agriculture sectors. In response, the World Food Programme (WFP) launched an emergency appeal for nutrition and anemia prevention for children in Cuba to respond to the needs of 350,000 crisis-affected children (between 2 and 7 years old) for 12 months.
