Purpose
This 36-month project will develop and implement gender-based approaches to the structures, policies and practices of housing cooperatives in order to be more responsive to women residents’ housing needs. It also aims to increase women’s inclusion, empowerment, and participation in governing structures within the housing cooperatives and community in Quebec’s Greater Montreal region. The project will mobilize stakeholders from the housing sector, federal and provincial institutional partners, as well as women’s and community organizations to implement systemic changes, based on gender-based analysis, that will be piloted in cooperative housing projects in three Montreal boroughs. The development of gendered practices will bring about optimal conditions for women residents' on-going participation in decisions that affect them in their cooperative housing. Supplement: Additional funding will support an increased scope in the engagement and knowledge sharing activities of the project.
