Purpose
The project will be located on Mount Sumanik which lies solely in the Traditional Territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation. State-of-the-art sound detection and ranging (SoDAR) technology will collect real-time, site-specific environmental and wind data that will advance the opportunity to develop new wind energy generation on Mount Sumanik. The project's scope includes designing, installing, operating, monitoring and decommissioning the AQ510 Wind Finder SoDAR unit complete with a cold climate autonomous power supply unit. The data collection and resulting reports will be used to advance the business case for developing new wind energy projects at this location. Additional outcomes of the funding will result in a conceptual design associated with new access roads and initial studies for integrating new clean energy production into the electrical grid at this location.
