Purpose
The project aims to provide technological tools to implement an interactive collaborative robotics completion platform for complex metal parts and assemblies. The physical human-robot collaboration facilitates the synergistic exploitation of the respective strengths of robots and operators by freeing the latter from drudgework and eliminating the need for off-line programming of robots. The main objectives are: 1) the 3D digitization of parts using structured light, 2) the automatic generation of 3D models from point clouds, 3) the production of optimized completion scenarios, 4) the creation and control of active compliance mechatronic devices, and 5) the analysis of platform safety. The project will contribute to eliminating musculoskeletal disorders, improving repeatability, controlling quality, reducing cycle time, as well as revitalizing this category of employment for young men and women (social impact) within Canadian companies.
