Purpose
Solid-state batteries (SSBs) are promising energy storage technology for clean transportation due to their intrinsic safety and high energy density. However, the performance of current SSBs is hindered by the poor solid-solid interface. To tackle this challenge, Dr. Jian Liu's Advanced Materials for Energy Storage Group at the University of British Columbia will develop and validate a new interface engineering approach to enable stable and low-resistance solid-solid interface for SSBs. The team will use an advanced plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition technique to fabricate a thin and ion-conducting coating layer to modify the solid-solid interface. This project will deliver a practical solution to advance SSB development and contribute to the transition to cleaner transportation in Canada and worldwide.
