Purpose
The primary innovation, an MSX disease-resistant strain, will add tremendous value to ERB’s hatchery seed and will generate desirable impacts in the short term for ERB itself but also for the entire Maritimes industry, where MSX is currently located. ERB is already the primary supplier of hatchery seed in Atlantic Canada, and all companies sourcing seed from ERB will find value in disease-resistant strains as a risk-mitigation strategy to prevent economic loss. In the longer term, the incorporation of disease resistance will be a required component of any hatchery-produced seed to enable sustainable farming operations. Overall, the value proposition is quite simply assuring the continued survival of our entire industry.
