Purpose
Remotely operated, semi-autonomous vessels have become an important tool within hydrographic survey fleets by allowing the seafloor to be mapped up to 10 X faster. The efficiency gains by using unmanned surface vessels (USVs) are impressive. However, USVs are still relying on their mothership to perform regular sound velocity profiles. The goal of this project is to redesign an existing sound velocity profiling winch to operate on USVs and further unlocking their potential in order to transition the Moving Vessel Profiler (MVP) to an important hydrographic survey platform with growing market.
