Purpose

The development of photonic integrated circuits promises breakthroughs in next-generation quantum communication and information technology. The project seeks to explore 2D materials as an optically active solid-state platform for photonic integrated circuits. Specifically, the project will explore quantum emitters (QE), a key component of emerging quantum technologies such as photonic quantum communication as well as their integration in on-chip photonic circuits. The quantum emitters will be created in electrostatic traps engineered in twisted 2D semiconductors by moiré patterns. The quantum emitters performance will be characterized using photoluminescence spectroscopy and scanning probe microscopy. The project will have theoretical support in modelling QE.
