Purpose

First, research, analysis and design will be undertaken to develop effective and cost-efficient network design methods for rural areas. Engineering and design tasks necessary to make rural cable network deployments effective and efficient will be completed. Where possible, existing infrastructure will be leveraged to achieve efficiencies. Incorporating wireless technologies will be examined as well. Next, a Self-Install Fiber to the Farm product will be developed. This is aimed at developing a complete product package that will allow a farmer to self-install a fiber optic “drop” cable on their property for connection to a transport/distribution network. This product package will reduce installation costs and barriers to connectivity.
