Purpose
Canadian agriculture has evolved over time in response to challenges, opportunities and market developments and is one of the largest exporters in the world. However, changing market conditions and consumer demand have introduced more varieties and challenges. Thus, the adoption of innovation in agriculture will ensure the increases in output and productivity. Currently, precision agriculture or precision farming is demanded to manage farming through observing, measuring, and responding to inter and intra-field variability in crops. The objective of this collaborative research program is to advance the “precision agriculture or farming” with enabling information and communications technology, such as the smart sensing technologies, industrial Internet of Things, computer vision, and artificial intelligence. This research will be in collaboration with the National Research Council of Canada and the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. The outcomes of this research will contribute to Canada’s economy by transferring precision farming technology to the Canadian agriculture industry.
