Purpose
The development of comprehensive life cycle inventory (LCI) and cost (LCC) data sets using Canadian data representative of key process steps is critical to complete a sustainability assessment of pulse protein and co-products based on technical, economic and environmental impact criteria. We will first validate and expand a prototype LCI/LCC database architecture aimed at supporting agri-food LCA and techno-economic assessment (TEA) practitioners in Canada. We will then deploy this architecture to compile and host LCI/LCC models for current and emerging technologies for pulse production and conversion to protein and other co-products. The models will subsequently be used for LCA as well as TEA of pulse protein pathways, and made publicly available for use by other stakeholders.
