Purpose

The Project will design, construct and demonstrate a THz single-photon detection apparatus, followed by the demonstration of the detection of THz single photons. Detection sensitivity will be optimized through the improvement of THz signal collection with plasmonic antennas to funnel the THz radiation towards the active area of the receiver. Following the scientific demonstration of the THz receiver, the Project team will develop the concept for real-life applications, working with industry to design a compact and stable receiver able to operate at specific THz frequencies, avoiding water vapour absorption in air for its operation at a medium to high relative humidity index.
