Purpose
This project aims to improve the quality of education, reduce barriers to education for girls, and empower girls to pursue their education in the Chittagong Hill Tracts region of Bangladesh. The project seeks to increase access to safe and inclusive education for 16,800 girls and 14,744 boys, particularly those from ethnic minorities and those with disabilities. The project also aims to strengthen 71 informal secondary schools to become accredited schools funded by the Government of Bangladesh. Project activities include: (1) leading awareness-raising events with key education stakeholders on the importance and value of girls' and women's education. This includes the prevention of gender-based discrimination and gender-based violence, and safe learning space in schools; (2) strengthening the skills of teachers on pedagogy, gender-responsive teaching techniques and life skills; and (3) establishing a mechanism for informal secondary schools to support their accreditation as government schools.
