Purpose

To amplify women’s voices regarding their needs directly to their Heads of State, especially during the phase of pandemic recovery, the initiative supports the preparation and participation of women’s organizations before, during and after the Summit of the Americas. The project will also enhance the effectiveness of the Summits of Americas Process by ensuring consultation of women’s organizations, their engagement in the mandate negotiation process, and increased follow up during implementation of key mandates. To deliver on expected results, the OAS Summits Secretariat will enhance their ability to identify women’s organizations through mapping relevant regional organizations. This will populate a database to increase their engagement with women’s organizations and to disseminate information via social media and virtual platforms. The project will also develop an awareness campaign via informational sessions on the Summits components, and generate a mechanism to increase women’s organizations participation and negotiation skills in relevant Summit activities. Virtual consultations at the national and regional levels will provide an opportunity for women’s organizations to propose concrete recommendations on the IX Summit theme from a gender perspective at the Summit Implementation Review Group and during the Joint Summit Working Group.
