Purpose
This project aims to continue improving access to primary education and support the learning outcomes of 53,822 primary school students (50% girls) in the 5 most food-insecure districts of Tete province, Mozambique. Project activities include: (1) expanding school gardens to develop students’ agricultural production skills; (2) expanding market linkages between local smallholder farmers and schools seeking nutritious and diversified food; (3) providing health and nutrition education for students and the wider school community; (4) providing nutrition and food preparation training for school meal cooks; (5) training government and school officials on financial compliance and food procurement practices; (6) providing trainings to increase women’s participation in school management; and (7) developing gender dialogue clubs that address issues such as gender-based violence (GBV) and menstrual hygiene management. This project seeks to enhance the impact of the daily school meals and directly benefits students, their families, school and government staff, and local smallholder farmers.
