Purpose

The Indo-Pacific Science for Coastal Futures project, led by the University of Saskatchewan, will support 12 Canadian master’s students and 2 faculty fellows over two years to conduct interdisciplinary research placements in Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and New Zealand. Focused on nature-based solutions (NbS) for coastal resilience, the project addresses urgent climate risks such as sea level rise and biodiversity loss while fostering international collaboration. Students will engage in applied research on mangrove fragmentation, blue carbon mapping, and Indigenous-led ecosystem restoration, while faculty fellows will strengthen institutional ties and co-develop curricula. Anchored in Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy and Feminist International Assistance Policy, this project offers inclusive, cost-effective training and knowledge exchange, building long-term academic networks and advancing policy-relevant research across South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific.?
