Purpose

P000269001: This project aims to ensure that the Government of Indonesia achieves compliance and builds momentum to remain in compliance with the global standard set by the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI). Governments and companies who are signatories to the EITI agree to publicly disclose taxes and royalties paid to the government from the extractive sector. An independent auditor then cross-checks the figures reported by companies and those reported by the government, identifies any discrepancies, seeks to resolve them, and publishes a report on the results of that process. The government is then responsible for communicating the contents of that report to the public. The public benefits from receiving reliable information about the extractive sector and is better able to hold the government and the extractive companies to account as a result. The primary activities of this project include: (1) helping stakeholders in the public sector, in civil society, and within the extractive industry become better informed about the nature of the EITI and the types of revenues and royalties generated by the extractive sector; and (2) providing technical assistance to the government and industry stakeholders in the areas of reporting and monitoring revenues and royalties generated by the extractive sector and developing communications and outreach materials. P000269002: The project aims to assist Indonesia to improve extractive sector governance and maximize opportunities for the sector’s positive contribution to poverty reduction and shared prosperity in Indonesia. The project supports central and subnational governments to better coordinate, formulate and implement sustainable policy reforms in the extractive sector. It increases access for the public and the private sector to extractive sector policy planning and development. It increases availability of evidence-based approaches to policy making and the quality and mechanisms for sector monitoring and oversight. The project strives to increase the benefits received by the Indonesian citizens from extractive sector revenues and reduce negative environmental impact of the sector development.
