Purpose
March 2018 - The humanitarian situation in Cameroon continues to be of deep concern and affects millions of vulnerable people. In the Far North region, 2.1 million people are in need of assistance following conflict and insecurity related to Boko Haram, which represents about 65% of all needs across the country. Of particular concern are protection of civilians, food security and access to water, sanitation and hygiene. With GAC’s support, International Rescue Committee is helping to assist up to 7,625 conflict-affected people in the Far North region. Project activities include: (1) supporting people at risk, including survivors of gender-based violence, through a protection and information centre, a safe space, and provision of support such as protection services, benefiting up to 1,248 people; (2) training of state and non-state actors on legal protection framework (human rights, rights of refugees and internally displaced persons, international humanitarian law), benefiting up to 230 people; (3) providing unconditional cash transfers to increase buying power to meet basic needs, benefiting up to 2,625 people; and (4) creating village saving and loan associations to allow vulnerable women and girls to control resources and propriety, benefiting up to 300 people.
