Purpose
This project will promote accession to, and national implementation of, the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) in East Africa. Project activities include: (1) hosting ATT Expert Group meetings to discuss the benefits of ATT accession, promote cooperation, and share experiences among African ATT States Parties; (2) publishing three ATT Expert Group briefing papers; (3) organizing side events to promote ATT accession and implementation in East Africa on the margins of relevant UN meetings; (4) facilitating the participation and engagement of East African officials in formal ATT meetings; (5) conducting an initial assessment of ATT implementation capacity in two East African States; and (6) producing a briefing paper on gender and the ATT.
