Purpose

This program is an integral component of the Aboriginal Fisheries Strategy (AFS) to facilitate the voluntary retirement of commercial licences and the issuance of licences to eligible Aboriginal groups in a manner that does not add to the existing fishing effort, thereby providing Aboriginal groups with employment and income.
