Purpose
The province of Alberta has entered into an Agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to share in the costs of youth justice services and programs within their jurisdiction. The priority of the Agreement is to support and promote programs and services that are consistent with the following objectives: - To encourage accountability measures for unlawful behaviour that are proportionate and timely; - To encourage effective rehabilitation and reintegration of young persons into their communities; - To target the formal court process to the most serious offences; and, - To target detention and custody to the most serious offences.
