Purpose

The Indigenous Resilience and Adaptability: National Indigenous Courtwork Program Response to COVID-19 project will support a series of interviews and surveys with Indigenous courtworkers, direct program directors, clients, lawyers, provincial/territorial COVID-19 committees for court services, and other relevant stakeholders. This project will examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the current and future service delivery of Indigenous courtworkers and service users. The project will be national in scope and will look at the following: 1) how each provincial/territorial government is responding to COVID-19 with respect to court services; 2) impact on Indigenous Courtworker programs and their ability to serve Indigenous-accused effectively; 3) identify new challenges and opportunities for Indigenous courtworkers to support the relationships between courts and clients; and 4) identify barriers and solutions to service delivery.
