Purpose
The Kativiik Program will reach out to Inuit family members directly affected by the experience of losing a loved one who is either missing or has been murdered. A trained and qualified Inuit outreach worker will provide culturally responsive, community-based, Inuit-specific, trauma-informed counselling. The outreach worker will also conduct Inuit specific peer support groups with the family members and provide access to Inuit Elders when they request traditional healing. The worker will also act as a liaison and link Inuit families to appropriate services offered in the community for more long-term supports. The Program will also include support group meetings, community meetings to hear feedback, concerns or new issues and a community dinner to support and honour the strength and resilience of the Inuit community in Winnipeg.
