Purpose
Following the JWST ERS and Cycle 1 GO Announcement of Opportunity published on June 14, 2021, the CSA is providing funding via a Grant Agreement to the university to conduct research using the JWST. The project will observe cooling gas in the Phoenix Cluster of galaxies as it forms stars in the central galaxy and finds its way into the nucleus to feed the black hole. Researchers will examine the dynamics of the cold gas observed with JWST and hot, X-ray emitting gas to understand how the feedback cycle maintains itself.
