Purpose
Following the JWST ERS and Cycle 1 GO Announcement of Opportunity published on June 14, 2021, the CSA is providing funding via a Grant Agreement to the university to conduct their research using the JWST data. We will observe four K giants with the Medium-Resolution Spectrometer (MRS) on JWST. Our MRS observations will resolve the line structure in the mid-infrared absorption bands with better spectral resolution and sensitivity than ever before possible. The resulting spectra will reveal the temperature and other physical properties of the absorbing molecular layer as a function of wavelength. With these measurements, we can build a better generation of more accurate models of late-type stellar atmospheres and improve the calibration of infrared space observations.
